Welcome to the School of Computing and Information Systems at the University of Tasmania!
We are based on the Hobart and Launceston campuses but also teach in Sydney, Kuwait, Shanghai, and Hangzhou. CIS consists of approximately 40 staff and 2200 students. Staff and students have access to the latest technology across our 12 computer labs. We are also home to HIT Lab AU.
We offer the undergraduate degrees of Bachelor of Information Systems and Bachelor of Computing as well as combined degrees. We also offer Information Systems and Computing majors within many other degrees, for example, the Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Arts.
2009 is particularly exciting as we are launching two new majors: Games Technology (in Hobart), Human Interface Technology (in Launceston), and re-launching the Bachelor of Information Systems following significant re-development.
We offer Honours degrees in Computing and Information Systems and for those with a degree already, we offer the Masters of Information Systems, Masters of Electronic Business, Masters of Information Technology, and Masters of Computing.
We also offer the research higher degree programmes of MSc and PhD.
We conduct research into topics on the breadth of the ICT spectrum and have particular research strengths including interpretivist research in Information Systems, E-health and e-forensics and marine ICT.
I look forward to meeting you on campus.
-Julian.
